  • Academia-- Baker and Taylor/Yankee Book Peddler's list of newly published academic books
  • Annual Reviews of Biomedical Sciences- you can do keyword, author or title searches through the archives and current issues of 17 annual reviews; full text articles only available to subscribers.
  • Black Issues -- African American book reviewers "devoted to covering both fiction and nonfiction books written by black authors."
  • Connect Text Catalog--a registry for online texts. 
  • Copyright Clearance Center--online registration, the title database, and online interaction for requesting academic permissions and online course content service.
  • Digital Divide Network -- the basics on the issue, current news and research, funding information, etc.
  • Indexes, Abstracts, Bibliographies and Table of Contents Services
  • Internet Archive: Texts -- Over one million books have been committed to the Text Archive. Currently over twenty-seven thousand are available.
  • Library of Congress Classification Outline
  • LibWeb List of Library Servers
  • ManyBooks.net -- not only can be read online, but are easliy downloadable to Palm, PocketPC, Zaurus, Rocketbook, or Symbian cellphone.
  • Memory of the World -- sponsored by UNESCO, this website offers access to over 160 digitized collections from around the world, including art, music, literature, newspapers, etc.
  • National Book Critics Circle -- list of useful book and criticism sites from newspaper, magazine and online publications. The Circle also awards for fiction, non-fiction, autobiography and criticism.
  • netLibrary--A comprehensive collection of over 3000 full-text online books and resource materials, many of which are brand new academic titles, which can be accessed from any location.  First create an individual account with netLibrary from any computer on the SAU campus.  After you create your account you are free to login to netLibrary from anywhere.
  • On-Line Book Page--12,000 free, public domain full text books, most in HTML format.
  • Project Gutenberg -- an impressive online collection of free online e-books (in the public domain and are trustworthy editions) Searchable also by author and title.
  • Publishers Websites - browsable by subject or discipline
  • QuadLinc Book Catalog -- web catalog of books in the Quad Cities public, academic and corporate libraries . You can place holds on books online with your SAU library barcode number. Call the reference desk at x6245 to get that number.
  • St. Ambrose University Journal List -- a listing of all our journal titles and the dates for which we own them.
  • Scholarly Electronic Publishing Bibliography- presents selected articles, books, electronic documents, and other sources that are useful in understanding scholarly electronic publishing efforts on the Internet and other networks.
  • Scholarly Journals on the Web: a comprehensive directory.
  • University of Iowa Libraries-- from here, choose InfoHawk to search the library catalog.
  • WorldCat -- a database (through FirstSearch) of library holdings worldwide. Password protected, SAU only, call the reference desk x6245 for FirstSearch password and detailed help.

 

  • E-Print Servers--preprints of scholarly articles, available for peer comment, can be found on the following servers:
    Cogprints--papers in cognitive science
    E-Math--makes available to the mathematical community the current homepage URLs and email contacts of all mathematical preprint and e-print servers throughout the world.
    LANL E-Print Archive--papers in physics, math, and nonlinear science.
    Political Methodology
    Social Science Research Network--working papers in accounting, finance and law
