Searching the Net

  • Comparing Search Engines--an excellent matching of the kind of question you have to the best search engine for that purpose.
  • Internet Tutorials - an excellent selection of online tutorials on training students on internet research.
  • OAIster  -- finding pearls of academic sites not easily found by using search engines. Searchable by keyword or subject and more.
  • Search Engines -- a chart of comparisons

A word of advice: every search engine is a little different. Some search more/different pages than others. Some search every word of every document, while others search only through titles and headers and site descriptions. Some allow sophisticated Boolean searches, and others do not.  There is surprisingly little overlap among the different engines.
