Journals and Journal Indexes

  • Annual Reviews of Biomedical Sciences-- keyword, author or title searches through the archives and current issues of 17 annual reviews, and retrieve the full text articles. By subscription as of 1999.
  • Articles from JAMA & Archives Collections -- includes all the JAMA & Archives Journals Topic Collection terms with articles indexed across all issues of JAMA & Archives Journals from January 1998 forward. SAU students can access these articles through Interlibrary Loan. Contact your librarian.
  • Behavioral and Brain Functions -- an open access journal, full-text and searchable.
  • Biomedical Journal Title Search--after you've searched Medline, you can look those abbreviated journal titles up here to find out what the full journal titles are.
  • Complementary and Alternative Medicine  NCCAM Clinical Digest --"a monthly e-newsletter that summarizes the state of the science on complementary health practices and a health condition (diabetes, cancer, sleep disorders, etc.)—clinical guidelines, literature searches, research highlights, and information for patients."
  • DOI Lookup -- just enter your article title or full info to find its Digital Object Identifier number (like an ISBN for books)
  • Free Medical Journals Online -- sorted by specialty, alphabetically and by how many years old, which is when many start to be free. Also in different languages.
  • Globalization and Health -- an open access journal, full-text and searchable.
  • Medical World Search--indexes the full contents of major medical web sites, and allows you to search through all of them with a search engine that will automatically look for related terms. Some stuff is free. Registration is from $45/yr to $65 for two years.
  • Medline from PubMed--free Medline searching, with links to the full text journals on PubMed. 
  • Medscape--also offers Medline searching free with registration, as well as annotated links and a database of full-text peer-reviewed articles.
  • Preventing Chronic Disease: Public Health, Research, Practice and Policy -- a free journal from the CDC, it "will emphasize a comprehensive view of the challenges in preventing chronic disease — by promoting dialogue, encouraging interdisciplinary and multisectorial approaches, and exploring new theories and concepts. It will explore new theories and concepts of research and practice in editorials and commentaries as well as in original articles"
  • University of Iowa Libraries--check those journal titles SAU does not own against the University of Iowa's catalog. Click on InfoHawk. Interlibrary Loan available for SAU students.
  • St. Ambrose University Journal List -- check what we own for the journal citations you may find.
