Business Ethics and Social Responsibility

  • The Activist's Guide to Researching Transnational Companies --for a look at their labor practices, environmental behavior, and other ethical conduct issues.
  • Albion Monitor --an advocacy group that thinks corporations should not have greater rights than people do. It offers some history on how corporate power escaped public control, and some suggestions on ways to rein it back in.
  • Center for Applied Ethics--Business ethics resources on the web.
  • Codes of Ethics Online Project--about 850 codes of ethics for professions, scholarly studies, etc. From the Center for Study of Ethics in the Professions.
  • CorpWatch -- news and analysis of corporate
    activity around the world.

  • NGOs: Non-Governmental Organizations Research Guide -- although not directly affiliated with any national government, these organizations often have a significant impact on the social, economic and political activity of a community or region.  From Duke University.
  • Nonprofit Good Practice Guide -- A library of information on fundraising, governance, accountability, volunteer management, marketing, etc. Also, a model report assessing the economic value to a community of the work done by nonprofits.
  • Social Investment Forum Online Guide to Socially Responsible Investing--for those who want their money to do good while it's returning dividends, here's a guide to where to put it--community investment, mutual funds, social venture capital, etc.
  • Sudan Divestment -- "Sudan Divestment Task Force has developed a unique approach to shareholder engagement and divestment, focusing its efforts on the most egregiously offending companies in Sudan. This approach, termed "targeted divestment", helps to maximize impact on the Sudanese government, while minimizing potential harm to both innocent Sudanese civilians and investment returns." Strike a blow against genocide!
