  • Alexandria Digital Library Gazetteer--maps, including earthquake features to political areas, and more. Scroll down the page.
  • Atlapedia-contains full color physical and political maps as well as key facts and statistics on countries of the world.
  • Avis Maps-- The car rental company gives you state and city road maps online.
  • Color Landform Atlas of the United States -- includes relief and elevation maps, satellite maps and historical maps of the 50 states.
  • CIA World Factbook -- this has extensive profiles of every country.
  • Citing Maps  -- how to cite a map in a paper or project.

  • Geographic Name Information System--type in a name of an American town or feature (mountain, river, etc.) and it will locate it by state and county and give you latitude and longitude.

  • Historic Maps -- from the David Rumsey Collection, includes 10 historic maps of Iowa.
  • Internet Country Codes--what the 2-letter country codes in domain names refer to.
  • Lonely Planet: Destinations -- One of the best and most down-to-earth sources of information from costs to history; it covers countries not covered well elsewhere.
  • Map Files--Yahoo's index.
  • Map Blast -- Fill in the form with the name of a town, state, zip code, and it will show you a map of the town, with buttons for moving all directions and zooming in or out; if you fill in a specific address, it will pinpoint that address on the map.

  • U.S. Gazetteer of Place Name
  • U.S. Military Academy Map Library -- historical atlases and maps of American wars and battles from colonial wars to the Gulf War.
  • WorldTime--an interactive atlas that also tells you about time zones and public holidays for the various countries.
  • World Time Server -- click on the country name on the left side, and the current time, date, and a map of the country will appear on the left.
