  • Academic Index -- "a true meta-search tool that includes results from mega-information databases that index only research-quality reference and information sources selected by professional librarians, educators, and educational and library consortia. At the present time the Academic Index provides access to approximately 137,000 quality information web pages."

  • Almanac of Policy Issues -- contains neutral background information on lots of controversial issues and links to news, articles, and associations on both sides of the issue.

  • Applied Ethics Update -- abortion, reproductive technologies, the death penalty, animal rights, etc. Included are links to court decisions, articles, and video talks and panel discussions by prominent authorities.

  • Controversial Topics --an excellent set of links from North Harris College Learning Resource Center.

  • Documents in the News --whether you're interested in air bags, Iraqi weapons inspection, hate crimes, the Communications Decency Act, or just about any current issue the government is concerned with, you will find the relevant source documents linked here.

  • FindLaw: Hot Topics --  legal aspects.

  • FirstGov: Topics --government documents on current hot issues like affirmative action, children and tobacco, welfare reform, etc., searchable.

  • INFOMINE: scholarly Internet resource collections

  • Internet Archive -- primary source and more in audio or video plus...

  • Jurist: Hot Topics in Legal News -- nice source and perspective.

  • Kaiser Public Opinion Spotlights -- poll results on Hot health care Topics

  • Meta-Subject Index to Government Resources -- an excellent site for government documents ( a usually reliable source for paper writers) on most any subject listed by the hosts alphabetically.

  • National Issues.com --includes information on gun control, social security, education and more. Government issues are well represented.

  • OAIster -- a collection of freely available, difficult-to-access, academically-oriented digital resources easily searchable by anyone.

  • Opinion Pages --links to online editorials and columns, local, regional, national and international to get ideas for a topic that interests you.

  • Paper Topics -- from the California State University at Long Beach.

  • Pathfinders -- on many topics, they will not only give you key web sites, but also the titles of recent books and search terms to use in journal databases too.

  • Public Agenda Online  -- Find out about the policy options and public opinion behind critical public concerns with our nonpartisan issue guides. Look at the menu bar on the left.

  • Science Research Portal -- "a free, publicly available web portal allowing access to numerous scientific journals and public science databases." Search through the resources for specific disciplines or through all. Also provides links to other free science portals.

  • Subject Resources -- from the British Library, a nice authoritative collection of links.

  • TimeSearch -- creates timelines in history by area theme or/and date. Defines terms and links to images. A great resource for papers!

  • UNdata -- an excellent portal to the wealth of information at the United nations.

  • Wex: guide to law learning - lots of topics and their legal aspects

  • Yahoo's Issues and Causes Page --links to abortion, animal rights, etc.
