Online Courses, New Technologies for Teaching

  • Association for Web-Based Learning--an excellent set of documents and links for theory and instructional design for distance learning using the web, actual sample courses, and suggestions for evaluation of the courses.
  • Digital Divide Network -- the basics on the issue, current news and research, funding information, etc. Click here for more stuff from the feds.
  • Filamentality--for teachers and librarians who'd like to increase student learning by building a web site but don't know how, here are examples of different kinds of web sites for different purposes (treasure hunts, hot lists, etc.), and forms which allow you to fill in the blanks to do something similar. It will even host your page for six months.
  • FREE: Federal Resources for Educational Excellence--all in one place, with a search engine and subject arrangement, you can find online educational resources on a subject no matter what government agency they were produced by--the Smithsonian, the Fish and Wildlife Service, the US geological Survey, etc.
  • HeyMath -- "is an E-learning system that supports the work of teachers in teaching and assessment, whilst helping students build a strong foundation in Math and become independent learners."
  • History Matters -- Designed for high school and college teachers and students,History Matters serves as a gateway to web resources and offers other useful materials for teaching U.S. history.
  • Internet Access in U.S. Public Schools and Classrooms, 1994-2002--statistics in .pdf format (needs Adobe Acrobat reader).
  • Iowa Database: a Resource for Distance Learning--info on using the ICN, including a handbook on videoconferencing, ITTC rules, a k-12 demonstration project, and more.
  • Learner Online-- an Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting project to help educators improve teaching effectiveness using new technologies. Includes a guide to math and science reform, a workshop on technology and course design, using technologies to teach, and how to design and deliver telecourses.
  • MERLOT: Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Research -- a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students of higher education. Links to online learning materials are collected here along with annotations such as peer reviews and assignments.
  • Online Educational Resources from NASA for K-12 -- scroll down for ages 14+.
  • OnLine Teaching and Learning Projects
  • Schoolhouse Software Review-- Reviews by professionals of educational software for children and adults.
  • Teaching Every Student -- supports educators in learning about and practicing Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • WWW for Instructional Use-- online courses in virtually every discipline
